“i don’t mind living in a man’s world, as long as i can be a woman in it.” -marilyn monroe

growing up, i never got asked the question of whether or not i was a feminist. not that i was heavily bothered by this, but i always wondered why people discarded that idea of me. i would have been sure that my outsopken demeanor would have been enough indication that i was a loud and proud woman. but, i guess my personal style and old-fashioned way-of-thought strayed some people away.

let’s be honest, feminism and i have not seen eye-to-eye for many years. our disagreement must have started when i was in grade school and first learned of the feminist movement and their goals and aspirations. correct me if i am wrong, but i always felt that feminists wanted to be treated like men; not equal to men, but exactly like them.

if you have ever interacted with me or been around me for a long period of time you would know why this bothered me so much. i am woman, who is completely, irrevocably, and unapolagetically proud to be a woman. i have never wanted to be treated like a man, and i am 100% sure that i never will.

feminists in the sixties, and even the modern age feminists, seem to be giving the wrong message. yes, i do believe that women should strive to be as successful as men, and women should always receive equal treatment in every society. however, i believe that women possess strong amounts of femininity that makes them different from men in such a unique and special way.

i don’t want to change who i am and resist from wearing makeup and colorful dresses just so i can be taken seriously. i want be succesful, but i want to do it my own way. instead of fighting to be like men, women should embrace this and move forward from there.

as a person who is a major fan of chivalry, i still blush when a man goes and opens your car door or pulls a chair out for you. i love wearing girly dresses, and painting my nails a different color every day. i enjoy that small things that come along with being a woman and i feel that if i were to ever become a man i would miss out on all those wonderful things.

feminists should just accept that they are women, and there are differences that entail from that fact. you shouldn’t try to change your gender to achieve your dreams. you should try and love yourself and change the world with all the power that you hold within yourself.
